Resident License Requirements
- Generally, resident State licenses may be used only by those who have resided
in the State for six months or who have been domiciled in the State for 60 days.
A resident must present a North Carolina Driver's License or a North Carolina State
ID in order to purchase a license. When domicile is used to establish eligibility,
the applicant must complete a certificate, available from wildlife service agents
or the Commission, certifying that he has maintained his residence in a county of
the State for at least 60 days with intent to reside there permanently or
indefinitely.
- Resident county licenses are limited to residents of the county in which
the person resides.
- Nonresident members of the armed forces, including their spouses and children
under 18, who are stationed in the State are deemed residents of the State and of
the counties in which they are stationed or reside for the purpose of purchasing
resident licenses.
No License Needed For
A landowner or person leasing land primarily for cultivation, his spouse,
and dependents under 18 residing with him, may hunt, trap and fish on such land
without a license.
A youth under age 16 accompanied by a properly licensed adult may enjoy those
privileges conveyed by the licenses held by the accompanying adult.
Such individuals must however, produce a valid hunter safety
certificate if hunting.
License Terms
Lifetime: Lifetime of license holder.
Annual: 12 months from date of issue.
Short-Term: As designated on the license.
Big Game Tags expire June 30 of each year.
